Sandrine honoured at the Senate

For the occasion of the international women’s day on 8 March 2011

For the occasion of the 100th anniversary of international women's day (8 March) 100 "exceptional women" were honoured at the Senate.

Resigned Minister of Equal Opportunities Joëlle Milquet (CDH) received Wednesday morning 100 women from the 3 regions and from all sectors of the country in the hemicycle of the Senate. Princess Mathilde was also present.   

In addition to Ministers of State Miet Smet and Antoinette Spaak others alike, including Mieke Van Hecke, head of the Catholic education, singer Sandrine Van Handenhoven, ex-judoka Ingrid berghmans and mission Sister Jeanne Devos took place in the red seats.   

"They are the young pioneers who have ensured for more equality in the Belgian society, which paved the way for others or that have fought against discrimination", clarified Milquet. "Heroines of each day, who gain respect for what they do. Combative women that have invaded male battalions and whose battles have been recognised as decisive, ground breaking or innovative".

At the end of the ceremony all one hundred women were to take home a statuette given by the women ministers from the Federal Government.
